For those of you who missed me at the Decatur Book Festival, you’ve got another chance to catch my book-readin’ self out in the wild very soon. Next week, I’ll be reading an excerpt from “Killing the Immortals” at the Snug Gastro Pub in Canton for the “A Novel Idea” event on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
The theme for the event is “scary stories,” and I’ll be joined by other local authors Lee Gimenez, Alex Hughes, Lynn Hesse, Frank Reddy, and Marsha Cornelius. I won’t be able to get up there until 7:30 or so, and I’ll probably be speaking around 8. I’ll bring some bookmarks, and I’ll probably read Chapter 1 because I think it’s a great introduction to the book. Those of you who have read it may say “I wouldn’t necessarily
call it ‘scary.'” To which I say … yeah, well, fair enough. But it seems most of these aren’t exactly of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” variety, and the organizer said she thought my book fit in well. So, here we go. Should be fun. You should come.
Now, the other thing I’m going to hear is, “Ugh. You want me to go all the way to Canton on a weeknight?” That’s followed by, “Where, exactly, is Canton?” To which I say … yeah, I still can’t really argue with you there. For most of you, Canton’s a haul. It’s up I-75 to 575, then 15 or so miles up 575 to get to downtown Canton. I can’t honestly say I expect too many of my cityfolk friends to make that long of a trip on a Wednesday after work without the help of Delta.
But, if you’re reading this and you live in Cobb/Cherokee/North Fulton, I can’t excuse you. Wander over there and say hi. Downtown Canton’s pretty cool, and I’ve heard the food at Snug is tasty. I’m pretty sure they’ve got a solid beer list too, for those of you who care about that sort of thing — you know who you are. If you show up, mention this blog post and your first beer’s on me.
